Grounds & Waste Management

Recycling at the University of Michigan (U-M) began on a campus-wide scale in 1989. Prior to that, only small scale volunteer efforts dating back to the 1970s were in place. In 1990, the recycling operation was completely integrated with U-M Grounds and Waste Management Services on campus.

This section presents some of the recycling efforts underway in U-M teaching and research laboratories. New waste minimization and pollution prevention initiatives will be added to this section as they are developed and successfully implemented. For more information on any of the topics in this section, please contact the Department of Occupational Safety and Environmental Health or visit our Web site at www.oseh.umich.edu/.
